TECUMSEH USES PROGRESSIVE WEB APP TO HELP LOCAL BUSINESSES

The Town of Tecumseh is proud to announce the launch of new channels on their progressive web app to promote local businesses, events and opportunities. This follows the launch of the Tecumseh App in August 2016, the first municipality in North America to do so, aimed at actively engaging its residents.

The Tecumseh App will now feature two new channels for businesses: “Now Hiring” and “Services”. These new channels follow the expansion of existing channels “Where to Eat” and “What to Do”. All four channels provide local businesses the opportunity to promote themselves, share information about the community and encourage people to shop and play in Tecumseh.

“We are excited to launch this second phase of our municipal app for both residents and businesses in Town,” said Tony Haddad, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Tecumseh. “Our goal when launching this app was to connect with our residents and businesses easily through a mobile network. Today’s launch now allows businesses to have a one-stop outreach.”

The cost to use the app for businesses is free for 2017. Interested business owners can upload videos, images and content they wish to promote by visiting www.tecumsehapp.ca/upload. All submissions will be subject to review for appropriateness prior to posting. Priority will be given to business promoting employment opportunities, events, and providing promotional offers for Tecumseh businesses. Anyone with questions is welcome to contact the Town at 519-735-2184 Ext. 150.

Town App“We are excited by the innovation being shown by the Town of Tecumseh. They were an early-adopter of Progressive Web App technology and since their launch other large brands such as Booking.com, The Guardian and AliExpress have also begun to use this technology,” said Karolyn Hart, Chief Operating Officer of InspireHUB Technologies. “We built the IHUBApp using progressive web app technology to provide an easy to use platform to get information out quickly and easily. Our work with the Town of Tecumseh has proven to North America that progressive web apps can benefit municipalities anywhere.”

The app can be easily added to any mobile device and is available whether the user is connected to the internet or not on most devices. Details on how to register as a user and save the app to a home screen are provided at www.tecumsehapp.ca.

Tecumseh’s New Progressive Web App is a First in North America

The Town of Tecumseh is pleased to announce the launch of its Town App (www.tecumsehapp.ca). Developed by InspireHUB Technologies, the Progressive Web App uses the latest app technology and allows residents to access the app from any mobile browser. “The Town of Tecumseh is always looking at new ways to reach residents and continue to communicate the work we do for them. We have three main priorities to engage our residents: communication, compliance, and reach,” explains Mayor Gary McNamara of Tecumseh. “When we learned about the IHUBApp and saw that residents controlled their app experience by joining the channels they are interested in, we felt that was a game changer. Using the latest technology means we can make the app available to anyone who has a browser. More residents can participate in this experience rather than those with certain phones.”

Tony Haddad, CAO of Town of Tecumseh explains there were two features that his Town Administration found compelling as it pertained to communication and compliance. “The first feature that drew us to the IHUBApp was the Automated Newsletter Digest. Communication is very important and our app builds a digest based on what channels our residents join and also lets them determine how often they are notified so that communications are timely. The second feature of the app was that it allows us the flexibility to give every elected official their own channel directly into their wards. Now, Councillors have a tool to engage with their residents while maintaining compliance with the Municipal Act during election season. Our councillors all felt this was a strength and are looking forward to using this tool.” The Tecumseh Progressive Web App provides numerous features including the ability to: participate in real-time polls and surveys, register for events, engage the community in volunteer opportunities as they are needed, assist in community fundraising initiatives, create engagement between residents, elected officials and town administration, join public channels, create private channels for economic development files, determine the frequency of notifications, along with allowing all users the ability to upload their own images, stories, and videos of the community for sharing within the app.
“The launching of the IHUBApp by cities and towns is an exciting development for our company,” explains InspireHUB Technologies CEO Donald Clark. “This technology has been used by large brands, but we believe Tecumseh is the first community to adopt a Progressive Web App for its residents in North America.”

The Tecumseh App can be accessed by visiting www.tecumsehapp.ca in your mobile browser and following the prompts to add to your homescreen.

 Town Hall Notes:

  • Did you know that the OPP has a new Citizen Self Reporting system online?  Concerns and non-emergency incidents (i.e. property damage under $5,000) can be reported at www.opp.ca and will be followed up by the OPP.
  • Do you know someone who is community minded and has the desire to assist others?  The Town is looking for Snow and Leaf Angels.  This is a great way for families to volunteer together, or high school students to complete their 40 hours of community service.  Details are on the Town’s website.  Seniors and those with a disability are invited to apply for assistance.

LEAF & SNOW ANGELS WANTED

The Town of Tecumseh is looking for Leaf and Snow Angels to provide volunteer leaf and snow removal service for eligible seniors and persons with physical disabilities. The Leaf and Snow Angels Program is truly “the neighbourly thing to do” and is a great way for families to volunteer together, or high school students to complete their 40 hours of community service. The Program will match volunteer leaf collectors and snow shovellers, known as “Leaf and Snow Angels”, from the community with seniors and persons with physical disabilities living in the Town of Tecumseh. Leaf and Snow Angels will rake and collect leaves and will remove snow from Town sidewalks and driveway entrances for those need of assistance.

Snow build-up is a potential hazard to persons with limited mobility and makes it difficult for service providers like police, fire, ambulance, mail carriers, and meter readers to work safely and efficiently.

To learn more about the Leaf and Snow Angels Program and how to volunteer, visit the Town’s website or contact the Tecumseh Town Hall 519.735.2184 Ext. 143. Seniors and persons with physical disabilities can also contact the Town to apply for assistance.
